Burnfoot DG8 7DS
Take the A75 towards Castle Douglas, after the sign to the Galloway Smokehouse on your left, take the first turning right after 0.5 miles. Follow the lane and bear to the left, go past the house on your left and you will see small piece of land on the right, park here. DO NOT please drive over the bridge you may get stuck as there is no turning point past the bridge.
Walk over the bridge and follow the path to the beach. This is a sandy beach which is covered with broken shells and large rocks. It is a haven of tranquillity and wildlife. I have been visiting here for two years and have met only 1 other person.
You can walk for miles along the shore and savour the views across Wigtown bay. There seems to be so many different types of sea bird here but it is part of the Wigtown Bay Nature Reserve.
You can let the dogs run around freely, just be aware there are rabbit holes if you have a terrier!!! Mine have tried but they are too big to fit, phew!!!
I love to take a book and a picnic here and just chill, you may in the winter depending on the wind hear the A75 in the distance but other than the noise of the water and the birds it is so peaceful.
The photographs were taken in the first week of 2016, even though it was winter I spent a lovely two hours walking with the dogs and the views were fantastic, it is even better on a clear sunny day.
When the tide is out you can walk past the rocks to some sandy beaches and to the water’s edge BUT PLEASE BE CAREFUL there are areas of deep mud that look like sand when the tide is out, I wouldn’t like you to lose your shoes or hurt yourself .
